The 1951 Federation Florin was struck to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Australia’s official becoming of a nation. The design features the sword and mace from the Arms of Canberra the Imperial crown- representing British Parlimentary Traditions- the Southern Cross and the symbolic Federation Star. The 1951 Federation Florin is the third of Australia’s four Commemorative florins, the only one struck bearing King George VI’s portrait and the first commemorative to be struck in 50% silver.
